Tresco & Bryher Gig Rowing Club

Tresco and Bryher Gig Rowing Club on the Isles of Scilly is a friendly and welcoming gig club open to all residents and staff – both permanent and seasonal – on the islands of Tresco and Bryher.

The club itself may only date back to 1981, but our proud history is rooted in centuries of island tradition, from the days when rowing was a way of life.

The club has four wooden gigs – Czar (built in 1879), Men-a-Vaur and Emperor, our racing gig, the Alfie Jenkins – and our fibreglass racing gig, Tryher. The gigs are raced against crews from across the archipelago every Wednesday night (ladies) and Friday night (men) from May to September as part of the domestic racing season, and our crews also take place in the annual World Pilot Gig Championships.

Off the water, we’re a friendly and sociable club and also actively fundraise to preserve and maintain these beautiful vessels.
